Spirit Award Recipient (Pacific Rim) - BCLA
The BC Lacrosse Association’s Spirit Champion Award – Field Lacrosse, is to recognize an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty this past field season working through the Covid issues and getting players back to playing lacrosse while promoting and celebrating the spirit of volunteerism.
Pacific Rim Field Lacrosse would like to nominate Chris McKay for the BCLA “Spirit Champion Award” recognizing an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty this past field season working through the Covid issues and getting players back to playing lacrosse while promoting and celebrating the spirit of volunteerism.
He was instrumental in organizing his players, parents and COVID volunteers quickly by promoting skills and drills and resuming active play within the Provincial Health Order guidelines once registrations opened for field lacrosse. After being provided with the guidelines, the COVID safety plan and varied examples of how Return to Play would look like; Chris organized his practice plans quickly and scheduled his sessions on grass and turf time available and was conducting sessions 2-3 times per week for his Under 11 group of players. Once the PHO’s were upgraded, he was quick and diligent in organizing exhibition contests with other teams in his cohort and not only provided instruction and competition for his players, he worked with opposing coaches to run practices and warm-up’s with both teams combined before organized games. Once other organizations ceased for the year, Chris was keeping the children on the field practicing into December and promoting field lacrosse and activity for the children.
His promotion of the game during these unprecedented times was truly admirable and a welcomed relief to those participating. Our organization is extremely happy to have Chris McKay on board and a member of our associations’ coaching staff. Chris exemplifies a BCLA “Spirit Champion".
Congratulations Coach Chris McKay!
